SPENCER - Edwin August Schwantes, 58, lifelong resident of this community, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at his home in the village. He has been ill the past two years.
Mr. Schwantes was born Feb. 14, 1896, on a farm in the town of Spencer, Marathon county and received his education in Spencer schools. On April 10, 1918, he was married to Dalia Kraus at Butternut. About four years ago, he retired and moved to the village.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Eldhart (Ruth) Schade and Mrs. Raymond (Anita) Griepentrog, Spencer and Mrs. Gordon (Elizabeth) Schmoll, Mrs. Herbert (Iona) Adamski and Mrs. Roland (Elvera) Regele, Marshfield; two sons, Dale Schwantes, Marshfield, and Gordon Schwantes, Spencer; two sisters, Mrs. Augustine Hancock, Marshfield, and Mrs. Andrew Brown, Omaha, Neb.; three stepsisters, Mrs. Albert Foss, Spencer; Mrs. Howard Smith, Clayton; and Mrs. Henry Miller, Milwaukee; a stepbrother, Albert Sebart Jr., Monroe, Mich.; and his (line unreadable), Mrs. Albert Sebart Sr., Spencer.
His father, Frank Schwantes, preceded him in death.
Beginning this evening the body will lie in state at the Schwantes home until 12:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, when it will be taken to the Trinity Lutheran Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Randolph Mueller will officiate and burial will take place in the West Spencer cemetery.
