Here’s how Sinkin’s obituary in February 2014 described him: “(A) retired banker and civic leader who championed bow ties, solar power, cultural understanding, small-business growth, HemisFair ’68, and other causes that made San Antonio a better city.” He helped start Texas State Bank and Texas Bank North — wanting to assist small and neighborhood businesses, particularly those on the East and South sides.

His bank was the first to become integrated into Texas. Among his civic pursuits, he helped found Goodwill Industries in San Antonio, was chairman of the San Antonio Housing Authority from 1949 to 1953 (hiring its first woman executive director), and helped organize HemisFair in 1968. In 1999, he launched Solar San Antonio to promote renewable energy. He left a lasting legacy of inclusion, fairness, and environmental awareness.
