Franklin H. Fanger of Alpine died Tuesday at his home. He was 84.
He was born in Wolsey, S.D., to Frank and Anna Fanger. He attended high school in Huron, S.D., and graduated from Medford High School. He then joined the Army Air Corps where he flew 50 missions over Southern Europe during WWII.
He married Ruth Mintonye on June 8, 1947. After graduating from Oregon State College, he taught school for 20 years at Myrtle Creek, Brookings, Alpine and Monroe. He also logged for a short time and spent many years as a contractor building homes and farm buildings. His hobbies were woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed visiting youth in a correction facility and also liked to go on hunting trips with family members.
He was very involved with his church and Gideons International. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Oregon War Birds and Fitness over Fifty.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Fanger, of Alpine; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Jan Fanger of Alpine; daughters and sons-in-law Chris and Roger Liles of Brookings and Kathy and Stephen Meyer of Monroe; grandchildren Tami, Tawni, Anna, Jeff and Mandy; and six great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be at Alpine Cemetery.
A memorial service will be Sunday, Dec. 3, at Junction City First Baptist Church.
Memorial donations can be made to Gideons International or the Nehemiah Fund of the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6, Junction City, OR 97448.
