William Earlwood Downs
MATHEWS - William Earlwood Downs, 80, a native of Mathews, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006. He was co-owner and co-founder of D & P Embroidery Company, Inc. and a World War II Veteran. Bill was a longtime member of Mathews Baptist Church and a current member of Temple Baptist Church, Newport News, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. and Josie Downs; sister, Billie Munnerlyn; and brothers, Thomas R. Downs Jr. and Leonard Downs Sr. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth A. Downs; daughters, Judy Smith and husband, Greg, of Staunton, Va., and Luann Smith and husband, Homer, of Gwynn's Island, Va.; son, David Downs and wife, Nikki, of Gloucester, Va.; sister, Florence 'Sissy' Camp and husband, Paul, of Broken Bow, Okla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Mathews, Va. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Mathews Baptist Church, with burial to follow in H. C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins, Va.
