In 1987 Verlin was co-founder of the Speedwell Volunteer Fire Department where he served as treasurer for 25 years. Verlin spent countless hours dedicating his time to the growth and success of his community and to the Volunteer Fire Department of which he loved.
Along with being a life long farmer he also retired from Cumberland Grocery Company after 38 years.
Verlin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle.
Verlin was proceeded in death by his parents, George Washington Maddox and Margaret Belle Owens. Brothers - Fred, Lawerence, Ralph, Lester, Haze, and Floyd Maddox. Sisters - Mary Jane Maddox, Winnie Maddox and Estelle Maddox Pierce. His first wife Marie Lambert Maddox, second wife Charlene Hall Maddox. Daughters - Charlene Jones and Donna Brewer.
