Her elementary and high school years were spent in Thorndale, where she excelled in sports. She especially loved volleyball. Both of her daughters played and she never missed a game.
Shirley left Thorndale for Houston where she met and married Theodore Ellis. They had three children. She was preceded in death by both parents and four siblings, Margie Lou Graves in 1959, Norma Ruth Lamar in 1992, Neville Newell “Pete” Locklin in 1979 and Janell Locklin Young in 1990.
Her family moved to Missouri where they operated a dairy farm for several years and where she also had world class gardens. She always said that those were some of her happiest years.
Shirley was a great dancer and creative person who, for several years at Christmas time, would plan and execute Christmas shows which entertained and featured as many of her relatives and friends as could be trained in the intricate art of “showbiz”.
She is survived by her son, two daughters, a sister of Evansville, Indiana; in-laws, and 2 nieces of Evansville, Indiana.
Services July 30, 2016 in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Interment at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
