WEST SPRINGFIELD - Gerald W. Marcotte, 81, of Monastery Ave. died Feb. 5 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Claremont, NH on June 10, 1927 to the late Laura (Wyatt) and Gerald W. Marcotte, Sr. He grew up in Bridgewater, VT, and also lived in Ludlow and Rutland, VT. He settled with his family in Westfield, MA in 1967. He was a purchasing agent for General Electric in VT and ended his career as General Manager of Loughman Tool Co. of Spfld, MA. He was a graduate of Woodstock H.S. in VT and attended St. Michael's College in Winooski, VT. While at Woodstock H.S. he exceled at football, basketball, and baseball. He played Varsity Basketball at St. Michael's College. He was a veteran and served as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army. Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his retirement yrs. in Florida with his wife Shirley. In 1996, they moved back to Western MA to be near their family. He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley B. (Boynton) Marcotte. He was the loving father of Gregory Marcotte and his wife Mary of West Spfld., Amy Albano and her husband Paul of East Longmeadow and NYC, Laurel Wallace of Westfield, Thomas Marcotte and his wife Lynn of So. Hamilton, MA, Melanie Feinberg and her husband Lyle of Wilbraham, Daniel Marcotte and his wife Rose of Olympia, WA,20Michael Marcotte and his wife Barbara of Granville, and James Marcotte and his wife Sarah of Mashpee. He was predeceased by his son Christopher in 1975. He was the caring brother of the late Geraldine Tarbell and Roger Marcotte. He was the devoted grandfather of Jason, Andrea, John, Brennan, Ryan, Rebecca, Adrienne, Peter, Amber, Julia, Nicole, Taylor, and Kyle, and cherished great-grandfather of Colleen and Joelle. He was predeceased by his grandson Nathan Arnold in 2002. There will be a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass Monday, Feb.9 at St. Mary's Church in Westfield. A spring burial will be scheduled at a later date. Calling hrs. are Sunday 4-7 PM at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
