Obituary for Florence Ruth Gritts

Funeral services for Ruth Gritts, 85, of Hulbert will be 2:00 Friday July 29, 2016 at the Hulbert First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev Glen Rowan. Interment will follow in the Double Springs Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.

A life long resident of Hulbert, Ruth was born Jan. 14, 1931, the daughter of Archie and Lela (Lowder) Hall. She met her Lord and Savior at Tulsa, OK on July 25, 2016. She had attended schools at Lost City, Shady Grove, and Hulbert High. Ruth married Joe Gritts in Tahlequah on January 21, 1948 and soon after began her family. She also began working at Reasors Grocery, and had worked at Western Hills Lodge, before working as secretary Midwestern Nursery, the Housing Authority, Bert Mahaney Insurance Agency, and retired from Paul Cook Agency.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hulbert, and a member of Gold Starr Mothers. She enjoyed sports and was a St Louis Cardinals and OKC Thunder Fan. Attending Baseball Games she would keep her own score book, tracking the game stats. Ruth also enjoyed crocheting, and working with her flowers. She was also the family record keeper, keeping track of birthdays, anniversaries, and the weather all on her calendar.

Preceding her in death are her parents, a son William “Bill” Gritts, and a sister Faye Naugle.

Surviving her is her husband Joe; children Linda Payne of Hulbert, Dianna Mayfield and husband Bobby of Hulbert, Jack Gritts and wife Tammy of Hulbert, Jerry Gritts and wife Shirley of Tuttle, Katie Gritts of Hulbert, Donna Graham and husband Mark of Hulbert, and Terri Vestal and husband Vince also of Hulbert; 12 grand children, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; two sisters Marie Harris of Salina and Maye Dill of Broken Arrow; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives, friends, and loved ones.
