Mrs. W. A. Ownbey, 73, of Cape Girardeau, was born Sept. 8, 1904 at Alliance and died Oct. 15 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was a daughter of the late J. H. and Louella Conrad Johnson.

Mrs. Ownbey taught at University High School in Cape Girardeau; was a special education teacher at Jackson High School and taught at the Missouri State School for Retarded Children. She lived in Cape Girardeau all of her married life and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are: her husband, Professor W. A. Ownbey, Cape Girardeau; a son., William Ownbey, Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Hooper and Miss Frances Ownbey of Cape Girardeau; a brother, John Johnson, Syracuse, Neb.; four sisters, Mrs. Flora Dolle, Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Clara Lumpkin, Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. James Morris, Flat River, and Mrs. Norman Myers, Patton; two grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

Services were Oct. 17 at the First Presbyterian Church in Capt Girardeau with the Rev. Dr. Ed Brasington officiating.

Interment was at Memorial Park near Cape Girardeau with Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home in charge.
