Stella F. Grexa, born Aug. 4, 1916, in Farrell, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2016, in UPMC Jameson, New Castle. She was 99.

Stella was predeceased by her devoted husband of 69 years, George J. Grexa.

Stella attended St. Adalbert’s Grade School and Sharon High School. She often recalled fond memories of playing basketball in the Polish League and dancing with her friends.

She was employed by the Relief Fund Office, the Mercer County Courthouse and Westinghouse Corp.

She served as a voluteer sewing uniforms for the Civilian Conservation Corps under President Roosevelt’s New Deal pro-gram.

For many years she was a Sharon election poll worker.

She was a member of the Mother of Twins Club, Polish Home and senior bowling leagues at Sunset Lanes and Thornton Hall, bowling well into her nineties.

Stella was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, serving as treasurer and vice president of the church council, Ladies of Charity and the Rosary Society.

Stella was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She remained active throughout her life, loved to walk and solve crossword puzzles. One of her favorite pastimes was playing canasta and pinochle, chuckling after winning games with her children.

Her family was her greatest joy and she often expressed pride and affection for them.

She is survived by her five children, Gail Shuttleworth (Bill), Carol Gurrera (Larry), Becky Clark (Kelly), Bob Grexa (Mary) and Nancy Quint (Tony); and eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Ludwig Gladysz, Josephine Gladysz, Francis Kilbert, Jessie Kocott and
Walter Gladysz.

Having lived two weeks shy of her 100th birthday, she was frequently asked the secret of her longevity.
