Doris Helen Melanson, 85, died peacefully July 19, 2016 at her home with family by her side. She was born January 8, 1931 in Old Town, daughter of Dolor and Anita (Bolduc) King.

Family was the center of her life and Doris loved to cook for family gatherings and enjoyed the company of friends and family. She was a devoted grandmother and an accomplished knitter. Doris was an avid card player who enjoyed playing "Head and Foot" and "63." Doris gave of herself and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

A lifelong parishioner of Holy Family Church, she prepared many funeral luncheons and was active in the Christmas Giving program. She also volunteered in the office of Hospice of Eastern Maine.

She was employed at Fogler Library at the University of Maine for many years.

She is survived by three sons Wayne Melanson of Old Town; Gary Melanson and his wife Janice of Wilmington, MA and John Melanson and his wife Lisa of Hampden; four grandchildren Bradley, Kristi, Marisa, and Michael Melanson and great granddaughter Brianna Grace; a special niece Terry Mayer of IL, and very dear friends Peggy Ford of Old Town, Bunny Farris of Lisbon and Gary and Heidi Crouse of Milford.

She was predeceased by her husband J. Lester Melanson in 1965; a daughter Sr. Diane Melanson in 1991; and siblings Geraldine Duplissie in 1998, Lauriat "Wow" King in 2000, and infant brother O'Neil Francis King in 1930.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
