An article in the August 19, 1893 Wise County Messenger newspaper told about a buggy accident in which Jesse C.Garrison was killed.
"Mr. Jessee Garrison, who lived four miles south of Alvord, was in town one day last week on business. In the evening he started for home, and just at the edge of town, the king-bolt jumped out, the wagon came uncoupled, causing his team to run away. One of the hounds of the front axle was driven through his thigh, breaking the bone and pushing it out through the flesh. He was seriously injured internally. Mortification set in and he died Friday. He leaves a wife and one child to mourn his loss..............................."
I found that August 19th was on a Saturday so Jesse C. died on Friday, August 18, 1893. Now.............you notice that it said that he left ONE child. If you look at the birth date of his second son, Jessie Clinton Garrison, You will see that Jessie Clinton was born two months AFTER the death of his father, Jesse C. So at the time of his death he only had one child. By the way, if you do look this information up, on the side margin it says that he is buried at Bethel, Decatur and that his headstone is with his wife Mary K. This information is incorrect. It is their son Jessie Clinton and his wife Mary K. that are buried there in Bethel Cemetery.
I do not know what happened to Jesse C.'s wife, Minnie Stepp Garrison.
Jesse's two children Louis James and Jessie Clinton Garrison were raised by William and Mary Kearney.
