Joy Sikes, age 86 of Purcell, passed away Monday July 18, 2016, at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. Melva Joy Akers was born November 15, 1929 in Woodford, OK, 1 of 6 children born to Barney Mack Akers and Edna Elsie (Griffin) Akers. She attended school in Springer, graduating in 1947. While in school, Joy was a standout basketball player and a member of the FFA where she enjoyed showing hogs. Joy married the love of her life, a local boy named Trent Sikes Jr., on May 1, 1948. They first made their home in Springer and later moved around following work. They welcomed their only child, a son named Connie Mack Sikes and eventually settled in Purcell in 1960. Throughout the years, Joy worked various odds and ends jobs. Her greatest joy however was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Joy cherished her life, her family and she lived for every moment. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was gifted in crochet. She enjoyed making afgans and sharing her gifts with family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Johnson Rd. Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Trent “Pete” Sikes Jr; Her parents, Barney and Elsie Akers and A brother, Jimmy Lee Akers.

Joy leaves behind: Her son, Connie Mack Sikes and wife Sherri of Purcell; 2 grandsons, Cody Sikes and wife Meghan, and their children, Mason and Kassidy, of Okla. City, and Josh Sikes and wife Lindsay and son, Dalton, of Washington; Brother, Barney Mack Akers and wife Dixie of Kendall, KS; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Dennis of and husband Jim of Goddard, KS Martha Pfannenstiel and husband Bob of Dodge City, KS and Anita Williamson and husband Jim of Garden City, KS; 2 sister-in-law's, Delores Akers of Kansas City and Rose Marie Sikes of Ardmore, OK; And a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
