Barney W. Illum passed away peacefully on February 21, 2017, in Stockton, California, where he resided for the past forty-seven years. He was born on November 1, 1925, in Plain City, Utah to Carston Elevious Illum and Lillie Lucinda (Peterson). Barney had two brothers and eight sisters, of whom three sisters survive him, Ruby Woodward, Opal Bertagnolli, and Eva Helms.
He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-one years, Alta Helene (Wright) Illum. He was a loving father who leaves behind his four children, Steven Illum, Harland Illum, Cindy Illum Jones, and Kevin Illum. Barney was a beloved grandfather to twelve and great-grandfather to nineteen.
He was a highly intelligent man, always keeping apprised of the current news, who rose to supervisory positions in his employment and briefly instructed at a state college. In his 91 years, he enjoyed bowling, golf, and his family. Barney’s quick wit flowed into his critiquing of food and good hearted banter.
Barney served in the United States Navy, WWII, one of our country’s combat veterans.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Warren/West Warren Cemetery. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
