Mrs. Phelps is survived by two daughters; Jan (Mike) Freeman and Susan (Ken) Rodger, both of Petersburg as well as three grandchildren; Katie (Lance) Kovacs, Josh Freeman and Colin (Molly) Knapp. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mrs. Phelps taught Home Economics at Easton Community High School for 31 years. During her time as a teacher, she also served as Guidance Counselor, Junior Class sponsor and FHA-HERO sponsor. She received the Mason County Master Teacher award in 1984. She served as Vice-President and President of the Illinois Vocational Home Economics Association. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Petersburg and was a long time member of the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Easton Woman’s Club. She served as a leader of the Chaney Happy Hour 4-H Club for many years. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and pets as well as traveling and quilting.
Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. John Vidakovich will officiate.
