Claridel was a devoted mother of five sons and grandmother to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a cat-lover, short story writer and self-taught artist, painting scores of masterpieces - especially landscapes - well into her 80's. Claridel graduated from Grove City High School, class of 1938. Claridel was employed by B&S, Bradford, Pa., and later Dresser-Rand, Olean, N.Y., for over 20 years.
Surviving are her sons, Dale (Berny) Abbott, of Towanda, Pa., Kevin Abbott of Bradford, Pa., Greg (Rebecca) Abbott of Empire, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Brenda Abbott, of Towanda; grandchildren, Dan (Karen) Abbott, Randy (Breanne) Abbott, Keri (Curt) Pickett, Kim (Aaron) Wheaton, Wade (Melissa) Abbott, Loren (Bryan) Bellows, Kensey (Astin) Melhorn, Cole (Holly) Abbott, and Caleb Abbott; great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Michael, Mea, Jack, Hudson, Kylie, Callen, Ellie, Monroe, Gwynneth, Gibson, Thatcher, Devin, Danielle, Jackson, and Lilly; her siblings, Verna Zedrick of Butler, Pa., Willa Mae Allison of Wilmington, Pa., Pearl Stark of Bolivar, N.Y., Charles (Martha) Allison of Ellwood City, Pa.; and sister-in-law, Deloris Allison of Butler, Pa.; as well as many special nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Randall Abbott in 1960, and Kirby Wayne Abbott in 2008; brothers, Guy, Aubrey, Willis and Wayne Allison; sister, Virginia Hogg; and daughter-in-law, Liz Abbott in 2016.
The family of Claridel Abbott wishes to thank the special people at the Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for their help and special care. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be directed to the Bradford County Humane Society, P.O. Box 179, Ulster, PA 18850, in Claridel's memory.
