Franklin was a United States Marine veteran who proudly served his country. Franklin worked at Granite City Steel in Granite City, IL and retired after 41 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Collinsville for 77 years. He was a member of the Marine Corp League of the VFW , Collinsville, IL. He enjoyed spending time at Fairmont Park watching the horse races. He also loved watching baseball and football. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his eight brothers, parents and son, Aaron Frank Bickel.Franklin Delano Bickel, 77, of Troy, IL born January 13, 1937 in Collinsville, IL passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at his residence in Troy, IL.

Franklin was a United States Marine veteran who proudly served his country. Franklin worked at Granite City Steel in Granite City, IL and retired after 41 years. Franklin was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Collinsville, IL for 77 years. Franklin was a member of the Marine Corps League of the VFW, Collinsville, IL. He enjoyed spending time at Fairmont Park watching the horse races. He also loved watching baseball and football. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, whom he adored. Franklin will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his eight brothers, to which Franklin was the youngest of the brothers; and his son, Aaron Frank Bickel.

Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Dianna Bickel; his children, Marshall Allen Bickel of Troy, IL, Peggy Lynn (David) Bradford of Chicago, IL, and Martin Dale (Astra) Bickel of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Rebecca Nichole Bickel, Brittany Marie Bickel, Joshua Aaron Bickel, Nicholas Jeffery Richard, Raymond Charles Bauer, and Jacob Matthew Wheeler; his four sisters, Pearl Whitmore of Torrance, CA, Ida Mae Baily of Torrance, CA, Dorothy Duncan of Ballground, GA, and Anne Shirley Kaiser of Huntington, IN; very special, devoted, and loving family friend, Tracy Fausz; and extended family and friends.

Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, IL on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11 a.m.
