He was the son of the late, Henry C. and Carrie Simpson Mauldin and he attended Odell High School, before serving in the US Army during World War II, where he was wounded in Normandy Beach Head. He received the Purple Heart and a Distinguished Medal of Honor and the Bronze Star. He was a former member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church. He died at his home at the age of 85.
