Darius Olhausen Cain of Augusta, Georgia, died July 14, 2016. She died of having lived. She was born in a small, rural village in Lake County, Tennessee, a west Tennessee county named for its most prominent feature, Reel Foot Lake. She was the fifth of five children of the Reverend David and Mary Olhausen.

She was a graduate of Treadwell High School in Memphis, TN; she earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. She was a gifted teacher and taught her entire teaching career at Fancy Farm Elementary School, Fancy Farm, Kentucky.

After her retirement she relocated to Augusta, Georgia, where she has lived for the last twenty years. She was an exceptional cook and an extraordinary grandmother. She was skilled in knitting and crocheting and she was a seamstress. Her handmade afghans for both babies and adults are scattered among and treasured by her family and friends in several states. She played the piano and it was her pleasure to sometimes accompany her violinist granddaughter, Caroline. Music by Caroline was one of her favorite things.

Darius was preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Olhausen; by her brother James W. Olhausen; her sister, Mary Ruth Keas, by nephews, Allen Bird and Steven Duke, by Fred Cain, her husband from whom she was divorced but with whom she shared four splendid children. She is survived by her children: Mark Cain (Rebecca) of Augusta, Georgia; Connie Boyd (Curt) of Mayfield, Kentucky; Jana Owen (John) of Aiken, South Carolina; Kyron Cain (Lee) of Clover, South Carolina; by her grandchildren: Caroline Cain, Mary Cain, Rachel Cain all of Augusta, Georgia, Curtis Boyd of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Katie Boyd Barnett (Eric) of North Augusta, South Carolina, Sam Owen of Aiken, South Carolina; Kyler Cain, and Brennan Cain of Clover, South Carolina; by two sisters Normagene McHughes of Jackson, Tennessee, Joy Duke of Richmond, Virginia; by a sister-in-law, Helen Olhausen of Martin, Tennessee; and by cousins, nieces, nephews, an aunt, and other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Darius embraced life and life returned the affection. She wanted to die all used up. She did what she could to make this happen. She was never ordinary, not even once.

A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, Music Program, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, Georgia, 30904 or to First United Methodist Church, 214 South 8th Street, Mayfield, Ky 42066
