Richard Booth Barney, age 84, died on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Sunrise Senior Living in Arlington, VA.

Born January 5, 1932 in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Varnell Jefferson and Daisy Claudia Booth Barney.

He was a Christian. He was a graduate of the Romney School for the Deaf in Romney, WV and had worked, until his retirement, as a typesetter with the Washington Post Newspaper in Washington, DC. He was an avid Redskins fan and enjoyed bowling and football.

Surviving are his sister, Barbara Ann Shufflebarger of Auburndale, FL and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Varnell Barney and Albert “Poke” Barney.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs, WV. The Rev. Ted Marsh will officiate. Family and friends please assemble at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016.
