John Riha was born March 24, 1833 in #37 Albrechtice nad Vltavou, the son of Voitech (Albert) Riha & Maria Bartuska. On February 19, 1855 in Albrechtice he married Anna Swehla/Svehla daughter of Joseph Svehla & Marianna Pelikanova. (of house #40). Three children were born to this union in the same village: Joseph, (October 31, 1857), John, (August 24 1860-April 11, 1861), and Maria, (November 21, 1862) with them were their 2 children, 5 year old Joseph and 2 year old Mary. They came over the ocean on a ship and the trip took 6 weeks. John and Anna had 3 more daughters that were born in the United States; they were Anna, Rose, and Elizebeth. John and Anna farmed in Winneshiek Co., Sumner Twp., Sec. 17.
