Yvonne Stockard, 80, of Meridian, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2006. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 19, at Meridian First United Methodist Church, with Revs. William Sterling and Richard Creech officiating. Burial followed in the Meridian Cemetery.

Yvonne was born in Greenville, Texas, to the late Myrick Bascom and Eunice Clyde Bardwell Carroll. She attended Lewisville schools, graduating in 1943, and North Texas State Teachers College, graduating in 1947. That same year, she married Ray Stockard on May 2. He went to work as an assistant county agent in Vernon and later transferred to Quanah as county agent for Hardeman County. In 1954, the couple moved to Meridian to manage the Spring Mountain Ranches for Herb Hawthorne until 1963. Yvonne got the emergency call to substitute as a fourth grade teacher in 1956 at Meridian Elementary. She stayed on teaching commercial subjects at Meridian High School until 1969, teaching the kids of Meridian for many years. She then went to the family feed store, Stockard Feed & Seed, to handle the books for Ray. They worked together in the feed store until 1986 when they retired. Yvonne was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving faithfully. She was active with the Methodist Women, and in the old Meridian Study Club, back in the 1950s and 60s. She was also a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts. During their retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling, taking several bus trips to Branson, New England, and an Hawaiian cruse. Her hobbies included cooking, putting up preserves, and her grandchildren. Yvonne had been a resident of Meridian Manor for about four years, with Ray always there with her all day long, every day, to see her.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July of 2006, after over 59 years of marriage; a sister, Mary Carroll Boenker, of Lewisville; and son-in-law, Paul C. Murphey, III.

She is survived by her son, David Stockard and wife, Susanne, of Houston; daughter, Jane Murphey, of Meridian; grandchildren, Ann Murphey Blair and husband, Jason, of Flower Mound; Robert Murphey, of Houston; Michael Murphey and fiancée, Emily Silverman, of College Station; and David Ray Murphey, of Meridian; sister, Marthan Carroll Stockard and husband, James, of Lewisville; other family members and many friends.
