Jerry passed away May 29, 2016 in Redding, California. Born September 2, 1949 in Skokie, Illinois, one of seven children of Myron and Mary Bird (both deceased along with brother Kenneth).

Jerry graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, California. He moved to San Francisco where he had a book and record store with David Ryan, his partner of 43 years. They also lived in Redding, California, where he worked in real estate.

Jerry and David traveled throughout the world as well as many US states. His interests were traveling, books, records, gardening, cooking and canning many of the vegetables and herbs he grew. He was well known for his spicy green tomatoes. He will be remembered and missed first and foremost as a loyal friend as well as for his unique repertoire of hilarious jokes and for that special spicy green tomato recipe.

Jerry leaves behind his partner David Ryan, his sisters Carol and Marian, and brothers Donald, Raymond and George as well as many nieces and nephews.
