Ada (Barton) Johnson, 93, of St. Clare Home, Newport, RI, formerly of West House, Middletown and Willow St., Newport, died at St. Clare Home surrounded by her loving children. Born to the late George and Maria Barton. She was the widow of Henry O. Moreau and Gale M. Johnson. She is survived by her six children: Rev. Henry B. Moreau of Mississippi, John E. Moreau of Middletown, RI, Shirley (Moreau) Saulnier of Middletown, RI, Marsha (Moreau) Audette of Middletown, Mary (Moreau) Cardoza of Portsmouth, and Ellen (Moreau) Miller of Tennessee. She is also survived by her sister Amy (Barton) Castle of Oregon, sixteen beautiful grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Nine siblings predeceased her including Alfred, Howard, George, and James Barton, Esther Grant, Ruth Votour, Mary Jeffers, Alice Browning, and Doris Chadwick.

In addition to being a full time loving mother, Ada always worked outside the home as a waitress for many years at Cliff Walk Manor and the Viking Hotel. She then went on to work ten years at Raytheon. Following that, she became one of Middletown's first bus monitors and stayed on the job until she was needed to care for her failing husband.
Ada volunteered many years at Newport Hospital and Meals On Wheels. Her church and family were the center of her life, and she enjoyed speed walking, doing crossword puzzles, and being involved in her church activities. She was St. Peter's second oldest member.
