Rudolf Hatcher, age 76, of Glen View, WV, passed away at the Beckley VA Medical Center on Monday, July 11, 2016.

Born on October 5, 1939 in Dunns, WV, he was the son of the late William P. Hatcher and Rachel M. Johnson Hatcher.

Mr. Hatcher was retired from the coal industry, having owned and operated coal mines for 17 years. He had also worked as a superintendent in the coal mines. He received an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Beckley College.

Mr. Hatcher was a member of Glen White Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. Mr. Hatcher had served in the US Air Force and US Army Paratroopers and Special Forces in Germany and also during the Lebanese Crisis.

Mr. Hatcher enjoyed welding, having worked as a government welder. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Arland Hatcher, a half-brother, Oris "O.D." Johnson, and an infant brother, Joseph Paul Hatcher.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 59 years, Joyce Parent Hatcher; three children: Stephen D. Hatcher, Sr. and his fiancé, Carmelia Toney, of Crab Orchard, Karen L. Frye and her husband, Charles W., of White Oak, and Sharon G. Pinardo and her husband, Michael J., Sr., of Shady Spring; two brothers: Douglas Hatcher and his wife, Shirley, of Flat Top, and Vernoia Hatcher and his wife, Carolyn, of Rock Hill, SC; five sisters: Virginia Lilly of Roanoke, VA, Ina Mae Durham and her husband, Martin, of Beckley, Mary Evelyn Vaught and her husband, James, of Beckley, Serilla Barnett and her husband, Frank, of Christiansburg, VA, and Betty Stafford and her husband, Jim, of Bedford, VA.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive, with a great-granddaughter on the way.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 4:30 PM with Rev. Kenneth Parent officiating. Burial will follow at Canaday Cemetery at Glen View, WV.

Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 PM until 4:30 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Grandsons, Jason, Brandon and Coty Frye, Michael, Austin and Bryson Pinardo will serve as pallbearers.

American Legion Post #32 Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites.
