Nelda Shankle, 77, formerly of Chattanooga, died on Friday, September 26, 2014 in Bryant, Alabama.

She was born in Chattanooga on Oct. 31, 1936, to the late Ed and Ethel Shankle.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Nora Mae McAllister and first husband, CWO Sam Swafford.

Nelda loved reading and traveling. She made trips to France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, China, Thailand and made many trips to the U. K.

She was a member of Liberty Baptist at Painter, AL and was retired from Motorola, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Survivors are sons, Anthony (Karen) Swafford of Bryant, AL, Joel Swafford of Flintstone, GA; daughters, Kathy Honeycutt of Winchester, VA. and Melissa MawNang of North Carolina; 8 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga Valley Baptist Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
