Gary Spoelstra, 60, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday afternoon, July 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Gary Dean Spoelstra, son of Cornie and Elner (Stowie) Spoelstra, was born March 1, 1956, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1974 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He was employed by Pella Corp, Vermeer Mabnufacturing, and most recently Guyer Salvage in New Sharon. Gary enjoyed the scrap metal business and loved creating items such as yard ornaments out of scrap metal. He married Kimberlee Quilla Leslie, October 31, 2005, at Fremont United Methodist Church. Gary enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and he was a 21 year member of ABATE District 14. He too loved family get-togethers, especially those that included his 23 grandchildren. He was an honorary board member of the Mahaska County Salvation Army.
His family includes his wife, Kimberlee of Oskaloosa, and his six children and their spouses: Ethan and Kendra Spoelstra of Woodward, Mason and Tiffany Spoelstra of Pella, Dustin and Amanda Burg of Oskaloosa, Rachel and Kyle Lappin of Eddyville, Victoria and Jonathan Craig of Eddyville and Cheyenne and Tyler Griffith of New Sharon; 23 grandchildren; his parents: Cornie and Elner Spoelstra of Oskaloosa; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rodney and Terri Spoelstra of Des Moines and Dan and Donna Spoelstra of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
As was his wish, Gary’s body has been cremated. No services are scheduled at this time.
