Merrill Firebaugh
Services for Merrill Firebaugh, 91, of Tracy, will be held Wednesday, August 17, 1994 at 2 p.m. at Tracy United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. Visitation at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy was held Tuesday, August 16. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 to noon and one hour at the church prior to the services.
Mr. Firebaugh died on Sunday, August 14, 1994 at his home in Tracy. He was born July 15, 1903, in Gray, Iowa, to Alfred and Hannah (Paulson) Firebaugh.
He attended schools in Iowa and Morris, MN, and Technical School in St. Paul. In 1928, he moved to Racine, WI, and had a variety of jobs. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served as a Seabee in the South Pacific Theatre. He received his discharge in 1945.
In the fall of 1945, he moved to Tracy and started the Firebaugh Welding and Machine Shop, which he operated until retiring in 1970.
He was married to Alice Sorenson on May 28, 1932 at Milwaukee, WI. Mr. Firebaugh was a member of the Tracy United Methodist Church and served as trustee for many years. He served on the Tracy City Council for 12 years, 1955 to 1967, serving on five or six commissions. He was a life member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans and Tracy Wheels Across the Prairie Museum. He was also a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rites and was chosen Tracy Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcy and Fred Schramm of Plymouth, MN; one brother, Ray Firebaugh of Owatonna, MN; three grandchildren and two nephews. His parents, one sister and one daughter preceded him in death.
