Cory Smith, Alaska Services Held
Funeral services for Cory Carl Smith, 15, were held Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Glenallen Chapel, Glenallen, Alaska. The Rev. Joseph Virgin of the Chistochina Chapel officiated.
Cory was killed instantly while riding as a passenger with his family while returning home from a sporting event. Another car was involved in the accident. Cory's mother, Mrs. Vera Smith, was injured in the accident and is expected to recover. Other members of the family were not injured. The accident occurred Thursday, Jan. 27 at Mile 188 Glenn Hiway.
Cory was born July 10, 1961, in Browerville, Minn., and went to Alaska with his family in May of 1976 from Blooming Grove. The family settled in Chistochina, Alaska. Cory was a sophomore in Glennallen High School and was a member of the Glennallen High School wrestling team, and the Chistochina Hockey team. He held a Brown belt in Karate and was involved in football and track before moving to Alaska.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith, a brother, Kelly, 13, all of the family home in Chistochina, and a sister, Mrs. Susan Loftis, of Dallas. Burial was in the Glennallen Cemetery.
