Mary Alice Young Crockett, 92, of Roanoke, Va. passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 and is now reunited in Heaven with her husband and best friend, Hill R. Crockett.

She was also preceded in death by her mother, Effie Arrington Myers Young, her father, Joseph Virgil Young, and a brother, Joseph Miller Young.

Mary Alice was born on August 8, 1923 in Chatham, Va. and spent many of her summers with her grandmother, Mollie B. Myers, and her uncle, Harvey Myers, in Gretna, Va. She was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke. Mary Alice retired from C & P Telephone, now Verizon, after a 39 year career and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mary Alice and her husband were charter members of Hidden Valley Country Club where she was a member of the Ladies Golf Association. She was an avid golfer having played for 48 years. Mary Alice was also a member of the Roanoke Athletic Club and enjoyed visiting with her friends. She was also a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church for 52 years, where she was active and served as a teacher in the Saville Sunday School Class. More recently, she was a member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church. Mary Alice will be most remembered by those who knew her as a very beautiful and generous lady who loved the color pink.

She is survived by a cousin, J. C. Myers of Decatur, Georgia and special friends, Jeanne Vaughan and Brett Hagen.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Oakey’s South Chapel with Rev. Doug Paysour and Rev. Branan G. Thompson Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Light Mausoleum in Evergreen Burial Park
