Benjamin "Covey" Hopewell, a precious 11 year-old boy, tragically drowned in a pond known as Slayter Creek. According to Collin County Sheriff's Office, he was on a sailboat with his family. It appears he got into the water to swim around the boat, but never resurfaced. Covey, who was born with Angelman syndrome, could not talk, so he would have not been able to communicate to his family that he was in trouble.

A gofundme donation page has been lovingly set-up by Missy Palmer to assist Covey's family with funeral costs and grief counseling. I believe her words so vividly describe this precious child, "Covey was a sweet little guy with an infectious laugh and a big heart that played pranks on anyone he came in contact with. He taught us to remember to giggle and gave us many reasons to do so. He will be missed. He leaves behind two wonderful parents that were his biggest cheerleaders in anything he did and a younger brother and sister that loved him so much. Til we meet again little man!"

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Jesus Christ Church of LDS in Melissa, Texas. Interment is to follow at Melissa Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
