Stonington - Darryl Lee Allen, 63, of Stonington, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1952, in Westerly, the son of Duane R. and Edith E. (Martell) Allen. He grew up in Stonington, graduating from Stonington High School in 1971.

He worked 42 years for Electric Boat, starting as a machinist then going on to become a marine draftsman, retiring in 2013.

He was a active member of the German Club. He was a very generous man to everyone he ever met. He liked fishing, golfing and helping people who needed it. He also loved getting together with friends and family to play guitar. He loved his Harley-Davidson and went on a few road trips with David Martell and spoke of the trips often.

Darryl is survived by his siblings, his twin sister, Cheryl A. Chase of Stonington; his brothers, Duane R. Allen Jr., and Dana Allen; his nieces, Julie (Chase) Gwiazdowski and Melissa (Allen) Bogue; his nephews, Daniel R. Allen, Dana Allen Jr., Michael Allen and Nathaniel Allen. He has seven grandnieces and nephews, Samantha Tice, Morgan Gwiazdowski, Kayla Gwiazdowski, Hanna Gwiazdowski, Jimmy Allen, Casey Allen, and Reese Bogue.

He was predeceased by his mother and father.

Darryl's family will greet relatives and friends from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 8, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial immediately following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
