Katherine “Katie” Louise (Oakley) Schommer, 89, of Hillsboro died Monday, July 4, 2016, at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center in Hillsboro.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Belleville.

She was born on April 28, 1927, in Roseville, MI, the daughter of Clarence Cecil and Beatrice Luora (Lang) Oakley. She married Andrew Marcolini on April 12, 1946, and they later divorced. She then married Elmer Schommer in 1980, and he preceded her in death in 2000.

Mrs. Schommer was a longtime resident of Hillsboro before residing in Taylorville and Belleville and then returning to Hillsboro in 2007.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Belleville, a tax preparer and a Walmart greeter for many years.

Mrs. Schommer is survived by her children, Karen (Ron) Brookfield of San Diego, Beth Ann Paris (Jim Helton) of Morrisonville and Randall C. (Patty) Marcolini of Rochester; two sisters, Francis Frost of Taylorville and Ruth (Jim)Hefley of Hillsboro; aunt, Edna Lang of Hillsboro; three grandsons, James Andrew (Yvette) Paris of Alton, Jacob Brookfield and Caleb Brookfield of San Diego; three great-grandsons, James William, Ben and Henry Paris, all of Alton; stepchildren, Helen (Mike) Kennedy of Taylorville, Shirley of Texas and Robert Schommer of Taylorville; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
