She passed on July 24th with the fireworks dancing overhead, a fitting finale to such a sparkling spirit.
Throughout her life, Pat longed for peace and happiness for everyone, not just for her own family and locality, but for the entire world. She was so pleased to have marched in a Salt Lake City protest against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During World War II, Pat was a "Government Girl," volunteering in the Defense Department in Washington, D.C. to support the war effort and ultimate peace.
Pat was born LaRue Wallace in Salt Lake City on April 11, 1927.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne; and sisters, Donna and Elaine. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Haynes (Tom) Thomas; daughter, Tracy Thomas (David Bowyer); grandson, Ben; brother, Ken; many loved nieces and nephews, her dogs, Gypsy and Chappy; and many cherished friends.
Pat and Haynes joyfully served St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City. For more than twenty years, Pat helped prepare and distribute sandwiches at the Salvation Army's food kitchen. She organized many Advent dinners, contributed to many "coffee hours" after church, and assisted with Sunday school, including sewing costumes for the annual children's Christmas pageant. She devotedly supported Haynes in his many church activities, including St. Paul's choir.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 261 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
