Robert was born in Brighton, Colorado to Kathrine and Kay Sakaguchi on July 18, 1946. He and his sister, Joyce, grew up and helped out on the family farm throughout high school.

Robert, known as Bob, graduated from Brighton High School. He participated in many sports including Judo, wrestling, track, football, and many more after school activities. Bob’s active lifestyle on the farm and in sports led him to enlist and serve in the United States Airforce. After his honorable discharge, Bob graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. His working career entailed experience in the public sector at the Colorado Department of Transportation and in the private sectors specializing in civil engineering.

Which then lead to his career as acting mayor and mayor pro-tem of Broomfield, Colorado. His experience in the community gave him the opportunity to serve as the mayor of Broomfield.

Bob, during this time had three daughters, Tracy, Tammy, and Kristen. He was a loving father, husband, leader, mentor, and friend. Bob married Deborah Daniell Sakaguchi in 1995. Bob stayed connected to extended family and friends as an active member in the Brighton Japanese American Association and Japanese American Citizens League. He enjoyed taking his family and friends to Colorado Eagles’ hockey games and Colorado Buffalo football games. Bob loved to be around family; he would tell jokes, pull practical pranks, and tell a great story.

Bob is survived by his wife, Deborah Daniell Sakaguchi; sister, Joyce Sakaguchi Phillips (Rich); daughters, Tracy, Tammy (Gerald Sellers), and Kristen (Brian Filizetti); and grandchildren, Joy Sakaguchi, Ty Dittman, Deegan, Paige, and Logan Sellers, Kayla, and Kessa Filizetti; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
