He married Gloria Brown on August 20, 1977 in Carbondale, and she survives. Other survivors include four children, Marjorie Trujillo (husband, Richard) of Punta Gorda, FL; Dr. Gerald John Knopp Jr. (wife, Peggy) of Wentzville, MO; Dr. Richard Alan Knopp (wife, Paula) of Lincoln, IL; and George Edward Knopp of Leesburg, FL.
Mr. Knopp served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 127 in Murphysboro.
He was a Christian church pastor and served at churches in Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa, Missouri, North Carolina, Wyoming and Illinois. He was a member of Berean Christian Church in Murphysboro, where he was an Elder Emeritus.
Mr. Knopp was the founder of Christians United of Southern Illinois. He gained a great deal of joy and pleasure in encouraging and mentoring other fellow Christians and pastors, ad he leaves a great legacy to the devotion of the Christian unity.
Mr. Knopp died at the age of 89 at his home in Murphysboro. It was his request that his body be cremated.
