He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. After the US Revolutionary War General the Marquis de Lafayette presented him with his sword.
It may be seen in the New Jersey State Museum at the current Capitol of Trenton, New Jersey.
Will:
To that grandson of mine who shall be admitted a member of the Society of the Cincinatti in my place. I give and bequeath unto him my Cincinatti
Diploma, Bald Eagle of Gold.
General James Giles was a General in George Washington's Army. On General Marquis Lafayette's return to our county, he presented as a gift to his friend, General Giles, his magnificent sword. It may be seen in the museum in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey.
