Connie J. Sabata, 58, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born the daughter of Everest Edward and Marion Margaret Abers Lawson on July 28, 1948, in Anadarko, Okla. She was born into a military family and lived many different places growing up and moved to Garden City in 1984 from Nebraska. She married LeRoy L. Sabata on Feb. 10, 1968, in Vilseck, Germany. Mrs. Sabata worked as a department manager for Wal-Mart for 18 years and was a cub scout den leader and a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed caring for her flower garden, collecting hummingbirds and spending time on her patio. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Lee Roy Sabata of Liberal, Marcus Louis Sabata of Lakin and Joseph Edward Sabata of Garden City; five sisters, Barbara Neal of Del City, Okla., Judy Trotter of Pawhuska, Okla., Roberta Jones of Houston, Texas, Susan Lavallee of Lawton, Okla. and Nancy Johnson of Webster, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home with the Rev. Lyle Stuehrenberg officiating. There will be a family burial in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
