50th wedding anniversary article: Nels and Karen Tande were married on February 29, 1880 in Bloomfield, Fillmore Co, Minnesota by Rev. H. L. Haakenson. They lived on a farm ten miles southwest of Spring Valley for ten years before taking up a homestead near Fertile, where they made their home for eighteen years. After leaving Fertile, they lived on a farm near Warren until 1911 when they retired and moved to Northfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Engelstad have ten children: Robert, a banker at Aneta, ND; Joel, a farmer, Kenyon; Conrad, a Lutheran clergyman, Chicago; Melvin, a farmer near Warren; Selma (Mrs. Henry Tufte) of Hatton, SD; Carl, a farmer, Aneta, ND; Christine (Mrs. Grant Rundhaug) of Chicago; Nathaniel and Luther of Chicago, and Esther (Mrs. Lawrence Stumme), whose husband is a student at Wartburg Theological Seminary. A son, Alfred, died at the age of twenty-five years, while the family resided at Warren. There are twenty-seven grandchildren.
