Daughter of Deacon Jesse Ketcham and Temperance Brush, wife of George Brown and mother of Charlotte Brown (married Zophar B. Oakley).

Wife of Alexander Mather, whom she married on March 27, 1808 in Huntington, NY, and mother of George Brown, Sarah "Sally"(married Thomas Browne Merritt), Thaddeus Brown (married Margaret Saunders), and Horace Mather.

Third wife of Timothy Oakley, whom she married after 1833 in Huntington, NY.

She was mentioned, along with her daughter, Charlotte Brown, in the will of Jesse Ketcham, which was probated on November 16, 1825, the abstract of which reads;.
"Jesse Ketcham, of Huntington, Suffolk Co., N.Y. - To my four daughters, Charity, Temperance, Prudence and Mary - My son, Thomas, - My granddaughter, Charlotte Brown, - To my daughter Mary, - To my daughter Rebekah, - To my son, Thomas, - Appoint my son, Thomas Ketcham, my nephew, Abel Ketcham, executors, - This 30th day of November, 1811,

In 1850, Prudence Oakley, aged 74, was living in the home of her stepson, Zophar B. Oakley, aged 56, a farmer, and his wife, Charlotte B. Oakley, aged 49, and their daughter, Mary Oakley, aged 12, and Robert B. Cuffee, aged 9.

Obituary - Huntington, L.I., Monday, April 16, Prudence, Relict of the late Timothy Oakley, 84 years.

Death Record - Prudence Oakley, aged 84, widowed, a Dress Maker, born in New York, died in April 1860 from an Apoplectic fit, from which she had suffered for three hours.

Estate - In the Name of Almighty God Amen! I, Prudence Oakly of Huntington, Suffolk County, State of New York, widow, do make, publish and declare this the following, as and for my last Will and Testament, to wit;
1st: I give, devise, and bequeath to my daughter Charlotte B., wife of Zophar B. Oakly of Huntington aforesaid a certain promissory note bearing date the 9th day of October 1856, made by the said Zophar B. Oakly to me, to secure the sum of one hundred dollars to have and to hold the same, with the unpaid interest accrued and accruing thereon, unto my said daughter, Charlotte, for her sole use, benefit and behalf-
2nd: I give, devise, and bequeath to son Thaddeus Mather of Galveston, in the State of Texas, a certain Indenture of Mortgage and the accompanying Bond, bearing date the tenth day of July One thousand eight hundred and fifty four, made and executed by Thomas B. Merritt of Cornwall, Orange County, in the State of New York to me, to secure the sum of seven hundred dollars and the interest, recorded in Orange County Records for Mortgages in Liber No. 89 on pages 13 & August 12th 1854 to have to hold the same together with the unpaid interest accrued thereon, unto my said son Thaddeus, In Trust nevertheless for my daughter, Sally, wife of the said Thomas B. Merritt for her sole and separate use, benefit and behalf and on the express condition that the Interest accrued and accruing on the said Mortgage be paid as the same is collected, unto my said daughter, Sally, and on the further condition that when the principal sum of the said Mortgage is accrued, that my said Trustee or his successor shall pay the whole of said sun, to my said daughter Sally for her sole use as aforesaid free and clear from the control of any present or future husband, or to her lawful issue, her surviving, as my said daughter Sally, by last Will and Testament may direct.
3rd: I give, devise and bequeath to my said son Thaddeus, a certain promissory not bearing the date the 1st of March 1857 made by my said son to me, to secure the sum of Five hundred dollars and the interest, to have and to hold the same together with the unpaid Interest accrued thereon, unto my said son, Thaddeus for his own use, benefit and behalf, or unto his lawful issue him surviving.
4th: I give, devise and bequeath to my son, Horace Mather, of Aberdeen in the County of Monroe, and state of Mississippi, a certain promissory note bearing the date the 1st day of March 1856 made by my said son Horace, to me, to secure the sum of Five hundred dollars and the interest, to have and to hold the same together with the unpaid Interest accrued thereon, unto my said son Horace for his own use, benefit and behalf, or unto his lawful issue him surviving.
5th: I give, devise, and bequeath to my said daughters Charlotte and ally all my wearing apparel, beds, bedding &c, and all the rest, residue and remainder of my Estate to be disposed of by them as they may deem proper.
6th: I nominate and appoint my said daughter Sally as Executrix and my said son, Thaddeus, Executor of this my last Will and Testament and direct them to pay all my just debts and expenses of my funeral.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal in presence of subscribing witnesses.
