William C. "Carl" Cagle

William C. "Carl" Cagle, 83, of Canton, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. He was born April 10, 1923, in Haywood County, where he was a lifelong resident. He was the son of the late Archie M. Cagle and Sallie Pless Cagle.

A member of the First United Methodist Church of Canton, he retired from Champion Paper after 41 years of service.

A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, he served in the 8th Infantry in England, a member of the American Legion Post 61, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 5198 and a charter member of the Center Pigeon Fire Department.

He was the loving husband and caregiver to his late wife of 54 years, Hilda Marie Mease Cagle, until her passing on Jan. 4, 1997.

Carl was a very loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Jean Cagle Bagwell and her husband, Joe, of Lake James; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Ward and her husband, Bobby, of Jefferson, Ga.; a grandson, William Scott Moses and his wife, Rajni Ann, of Grapevine, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Annie Hutchins of Grapevine, Texas; twin great-granddaughters, Kaleigh Elise Ward and Alden Marie Ward of Jefferson, Ga.; and a sister, Louise Sentelle Pellett and her husband, Jack, of Morristown, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, with the Rev. W.O. Henson and Rev. Patricia G. Chaput officiating.

Burial will follow at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on today, Nov. 7, 2006 at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Fellow members of the Center Pigeon Fire Department are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Johnny Woody, 542 Reed Cove Road, Waynesville, N.C. 28786 or First United Methodist Church of Canton, 31 Newfound St., Canton, N.C. 28716. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Autumn Care, Hospice, and his attending physicians for the loving care they extended.
