July 30, 1936 - May 27, 2016 Dr. Gerard E. Fareau passed away at home in Pasadena on 5/27/16. A native of France, he moved to the US at age 19 and completed undergraduate studies at UCLA before pursuing a medical degree and pediatric residency at USC. He served overseas in the U.S. Army and returned to USC to pursue fellowship training in genetics. He established the Down syndrome specialty clinic at Los Angeles County hospital, where he provided compassionate care to his patients over the ensuing 40 years. A loving and devoted husband, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melba, who passed away in January 2016. He is survived by his sons, Sean and Gilbert, his grandchildren, Julian and Aoife, his daughter-in-law, Kimberly, and his sister, Christianne Cadoret, and her family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and an exemplary life, and he will be deeply missed by all. Funeral services will be held at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home in Pasadena at 5:00 pm on Saturday, 6/11/16. Published in the Los Angeles Times on June 9, 2016
