HEREFORD - Guy Walser, 97, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.
Graveside celebration of life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic rites by Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 AF&AM. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. after burial in the Lamar Room of King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home with the Rev. Don Larkin, the Rev. Kyle Streun and the Rev. Joe Schultz officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. Walser was born Oct. 21, 1909, in the Prairie View Community near Chillicothe, the son of Charles and Sara Walser. His family moved to Summerfield when he was 7 years old. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1928, and attended Texas Tech University and West Texas State University.

He married Rebecca Glenn Curry on Sept. 17, 1932, in Clovis, N.M. Mr. Walser farmed and raised cattle in Summerfield until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Walser was a 50-year member of Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 AF&AM, a member of the Oasis Shrine Club, a member of the Khiva Shriners, a member of the Scottish rite, a deacon of Summerfield Baptist Church for many years and a member of Hereford First Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling in his life, having visited several countries in Europe, Switzerland, France, Japan and Hawaii. Mr. Walser's advice for life's challenges is, "Don't give up."

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son; and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Ken Walser and wife Dianne of Prosper and Wayne Walser of Higgins; two daughters, Betty Hayes and husband Cleatis of Lockney and Bobbie Purcell and husband Jene of Higgins; a sister, Leatrus Clark of Cedar Park; a daughter-in-law, Nicky Anderson and husband Dave of Hereford; a very special friend, Clora Smith of Hereford; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Samaritan Hospice, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045 or King's Manor Methodist Retirement Home, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
