A relatively new marker on his grave states that he died on Nov. 30, 1944, and a transcription of his Alabama Death Certificate gives the date as Nov. 22, 1944; however, his obit clearly he states he died on Thursday which was the 23rd of Nov.
His obituary in the Montgomery Advertiser, dated 24 Nov 1944, is a s follows:
THOMAS, Jasper T., 86, died late Thursday afternoon at his home in Goshen after a short illness. Surviving are two sons, H. T. Thomas, of Goshen, and William R. Thomas, of Luverne; three daughters, Mrs. Bill Pugh, Troy; Mrs. Harvey Briggs, Goshen, and Mrs. Erving [sic] Jeffcoat, Luverne; 30 grandchildren and 27 great - grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., from Elam Church with the Rev. Ed Hargrove, of Greenville, officiating. Burial in churchyard cemetery, McGehee Funeral Home in charge.
