Margaret Therese Jacobs, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016. She was the daughter of John Joseph Stack and Margaret Marie (nee Scannell) Stack, emigrants of County Kerry, Ireland in 1925.

Peggy was a very active and independent person. She was working in the Empire State Building in Manhattan as a secretary for the Egyptian Consulate when she was only 19.

She ultimately met the love of her life, Louis Robert 'Buddy' Jacobs in Manhattan and was married May 20, 1961 at the Church of St. John the Martyr in Manhattan. They had two children, a son, Thomas Andrew Jacobs and a daughter, Patricia Marie Jacobs. They relocated to the suburbs of Long Island in 1968 finding a small home in Bethpage, New York, in Nassau County. Peggy would spend nearly 50 years there.

Her husband passed in 1970 and Peggy did an admirable job of raising her two children on her own finding work as an accounting and payroll clerk. She had roles at the Long Island Business Review, Cablevision Systems, and ultimately Grumman Aerospace, famed maker of the Lunar module and F-14 Tomcat fighter featured in the movie, Top Gun (1986). Grumman’s headquarters was located only a few blocks from her home in Bethpage and working there was the culmination of a long-time goal. She retired in 1995.

Peggy was a voracious reader and while unable to complete a college degree, instilled a life-long love of reading and learning in her children, both of whom graduated from college. She loved mysteries and historical fiction and was an active walker well into her eighties. Relocating to Villa St. Benedict in February of 2015 after a series of hospital stays in New York, Peggy loved the view of the grounds from her 4th floor window and attending mass in the chapel.

Always an animal lover, she enjoyed frequent visits from her son’s dog Bailey, who was rescued from the same Long Island shelter where her cats were placed upon her hospitalization just before Christmas in 2014. Her kind and giving personality will be sorely missed.

She leaves behind her son Thomas and his wife Loretta in Naperville, Illinois, her daughter Patti, who resides in Santa Rosa, California, as well as nieces and nephews in Connecticut, where she grew up. She was the youngest of three siblings, Peggy’s brother, Patrick Joseph Stack, and her sister, Mary Genevieve (Stack) Santa Barbara preceded her in death.

Funeral Information: Visitation: Friday, July 1, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Monastery, 1910 Maple Avenue, Lisle, Illinois. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Private family interment will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
