Civil War Record:
Was present at Harper's Ferry at the execution of John Brown just before the War;
Enlisted at Petersburg, Va. as Private in Co. B, 12th Va. Infantry April 19, 1861;
Promoted to Corporal Jan. 15, 1862;
Wounded in action Aug. 30, 1862 at the Second Battle of Manassas;
Half of his chin had been shot away, but he continued fighting;
Detailed for special duty as Quarter Master clerk for the rest of the War.
