born in Dundee, Scotland. Johanna immigrated to the United States in 1889. She and her mother and older sister Anna traveled on the ship, British Princess, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Houston Texas.
Educated in The public schools of Houston and took secretarial training in a private school. Graduated from La Salle University in auditing and accounting.

She settled in Bisbee, Arizona, where her parents had moved too. in 1917 started working at at the Improvement Company and worked there for several years. After being Married to Charles Allen, she and her husband ran the Standard
furniture Company.

member of PEO, YWCA, Business and Professional Women's Club, and Eastern Star. Was the Woman of the year in 1960
with the BPW club. In 1965 the Bisbee YWCA declared and celebrated "Johanna Allen Day"
