OELWEIN - Bonita Maxine Smith, 88, of Oelwein passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein.
Bonnie was born Aug. 1, 1924 in Maynard to parents Walter and Glea (Bates) Jellings. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1942. Bonnie then attended and graduated from Cook's Secretarial School in Oelwein. On Oct. 15, 1944 she was united in marriage to Raymond Smith in Maynard.
Bonnie was a homemaker, mother, seamstress, and secretary. She was a member of the American Legion, Grace United Methodist Church, Red Hat Society, was a volunteer for the Oelwein Chamber of Commerce and the Oelwein Public Library. Bonnie was an avid reader, especially loving mystery novels. She was also an accomplished seamstress, having created and sold dresses to many in the Oelwein area. She loved playing many different card games with her friends and family. Bonnie was also a faithful fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew, and continue to love her.
Left to celebrate Bonnie's life is her son Brent "Pokey" (Kathy) Smith of Newton; her grandchildren, Jarid, Tessa, and Hannah Smith of Newton, Joey Wood of Granger, Ind., Wendy Wood of Arvada, Colo., and Nick Jones of Seattle, Wash.; her son-in-law Joe Wood of Monticello; her sister Ella Borland of Eau Claire, Wis.; as well as many friends.
In death, Bonnie has rejoined her parents Walter and Glea Jellings; her husband Raymond Smith; her daughter Barbara Wood; and her sons, Blaine and Brad Smith.
