Professional Baseball Player, and Manager. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1900s, 1910s, and 1920s. He was born one of six children as Herbert Todd Allen on January 14, 1885, another source says, January 14, 1887, to Edward Allen (1860-1936), and his wife Laura Law Allen (1864-1928), in Wheatland, Indiana. He played the position of third baseman and outfielder with the Indianapolis ABCs making his professional baseball debut with them in 1908. He continued to play with the Indianapolis ABCs from 1908 to 1913, and 1915 to 1917. The 5'19" and 155lbs third baseman and outfielder who batted right and threw right also played with the French Lick Plutos in 1914, the Royal Poinciana Hotel Team in West Palm Beach, Florida, from 1915 to 1916, the Bowser's ABCs in 1916, Jewell's ABCs in 1917, and the New York Lincoln Giants from 1917 to 1919. He also managed the Indianapolis ABCs when they played mainly at Northwestern Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1911 to 1913. In his later years, he also worked in maintenance at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, before his retirement in 1962. He passed away at the Americana Nursing Home from cerebral thrombosis and arteriosclerosis in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 17, 1971, at the age of 84 or 86. Following his death, his funeral service was held at Willis Mortuary in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at the University United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, and he was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was married to Jessie Mae Johnson Allen (1897-1983), in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 21, 1916, and they were together until his death on January 17, 1971. His wife Jessie Mae passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 31, 1983, at the age of 86, and she is also buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple had three children together, Anita, Laura, and Mary Frances.
