Nancy J. Foster was born in Warren County, Ill. 3-16-1853 and passed away at their home in Tingley, Iowa on the morning of March 25, 1916 aged 63 years and 9 days. She was the 3rd daughter of John A. and Martha J. Foster and was left motherless when she was a small child.

She was united in marriage to Robert Irwin Hoge [sic], 2-20-1873 in Warren County, Ill. To this union were born 8 children -- all living except the oldest son, Alonzo F. who died when about 3 years of age. They are Bertha W. of Tingley; John A. of St. Paul, Minn; Martin I. of Tarkie [sic], Missouri; Harold C. of Hutchison, Kansas; Ethel A. of Tingley, Iowa; Robert G. of Slater, Wyoming and Hugh W. of Tingley. All were present at the funeral services.

The family came to Ringgold county in the spring of 1879 and resided on a farm south of Mt. Ayr, until 1893 when they moved near Tingley, and have since resided in and near here.

Besides her her husband and children, she leaved [sic] 2 sisters, Mr. Elizabeth McClanahan of Mt. Ayr and Mrs. Margaret McKee of Sterling, Kansas; 2 grandsons, George and Herbert Hogue of Tarkio, Missouri and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:15 in U.P. church conducted by Rev. T.R. Sikens, assted [sic] by Rev. Peter Parker. Interment in Tingley cemetery.
